New York goes for the Series Win in Cleveland.
CLEVELAND—After last night’s thrilling win against the Guardians, the Yankees will look to take the series win in Cleveland.
One thing to watch today is the Yankees bullpen usage. Closer David Bednar is presumably unavailable today as he’s gotten eight outs in the past two games. The Yankees used every reliever except for Fernando Cruz last night, so they will look to their ace, Gerrit Cole, to give them good length in this outing.
First pitch Tuesday will be at 6:40pm on Amazon Prime Video.
Here is how the Yankees will line up today:
Anthony Volpe is back in the Yankees starting lineup after being off last night. Jose Caballero is on the bench. J.C. Escarra is catching Gerrit Cole today for the first time in both their careers.
Here is how the Guardians will line up today:
Pitching Matchup
Yankees RHP Gerrit Cole (1-1, 2.00)
Last time out against the Guardians, Cole had his worst start of the season, giving up three home runs. This time around, Cole is looking to fare much better against the scrappy Guardians lineup that is generally not known for their power. The one guy he’s going to need to watch out for is Jose Ramirez, who has phenomenal career numbers against Cole, and the Yankees as a team.
Here is how Cole has fared against the Guardians in his career:
Opponent RHP Slade Cecconi (3-5, 4.92)
The Yankees saw Cecconi last week, and only scored one run against him. His stuff won’t blow you away, but the Yankees need to hold their own against him and beat a pitcher that is frankly not as good as their lineup. The good thing for the Yankees is Cecconi’s ERA in 19 home innings in 2026 is 4.19.
